So Donald Trump is the next POTUS. I had not expected that. It is horrible for the US, in my opinion. But for the world, it is a lucky development. Why?
Well, Clinton was all about "Regime Change". A true "hawk", as they say, who seemed to never really object to the use for force in contradiction to international law, and who even propagated it.
Trump, however, seems more likely to cut down military expenditure in the US, which means a lot fewer wars. IF he actually gets to implement what he wants (and if what he wants is what he said before the election), then we will see no escalation over Syria (maybe even cooperation even against terrorists that the US had backed before), and generally a reduction in the meddling with other peoples' affairs. That is a big pro, because the coming inevitable shift in political power on the world stage does not need to be a violent one then. More conspecifics stay alive, scientific and economic progress can march on, everybody wins.
Now, there are downsides, of course. The US will become a more hostile environment, as the government will act more on behalf of those who dislike the colorfulness of the modern world. Scientific progress in the US will very likely suffer, too, as the new leaders of the US are all about denial of science in several fields. But if we Europeans (or others, like China or India) handle this smartly, it may mean that we can absorb many of those scientists into our own societies and help humanity march on to make up for the decrease in the US.
I believe the net effect of this election on the world, on mankind as a whole, is positive, despite the obvious problems. Of course, I have been wrong before. But who hasn't.
