Today, on the 4th of January 2022, the USA had 1 million new infections with #omicron (or rather #omikron). Models predict to see 140 million infected until March.
Prognosis linked here.
That prognosis is two weeks old, the epidemiologists are now often saying "faster than expected", as if they were climate scientists.
A hundred million or more infected at the same time seems to be a worst-case scenario, and probably it won't be THAT bad. Also, most of these cases will be mild (though even at 0.5% mortality, that adds up to a horrible number).
But all those people will have to stay at home at least for a few days.
A little worst case scenario in the worst-case scenario: The economy might just have to stop, including grocery stores, clinics, power supply companies, water supply companies, police, and so on, for something between a few days and two weeks. Hospital ICU's will be overcrowded with patients for a bit longer, probably 8 to 12 weeks starting from mid-January.
Again: This is a worst case scenario. It probably won't be nearly that bad. But it WILL be bad.
Best to prepare, whether you're in the US or elsewhere. Germany, for instance, will be just about 2 weeks behind the US in that. Get some food supplies, water, toilet paper (yes) and so on for about two more weeks than usual. And then brace for impact.
